Since interleague play has been changed to April 13 I would like to reschedule all games scheduled for April 14 to April 7. Please mark your schedules accordingly.

1/15
Jim Dyck should be listed as a 0 Outfielder and Third baseman. As of now we still have not found anyone to take over Mike's team. I have e-mailed about 15 SABR members twice and have sent announcements to the Harrisburg/York papers. I have decided to give this issue more time. For the 1953 season this team will remain in the Krasnasky Division. We will have to juggle around with the schedule. Tony has already stated that he will take care of draft issues, with my help. He is also willing to play some games for the 1953 season. I will play some games, probably interleague tilts. Hopefully some of the Krasnasky owners can also play some games. We will continue to look for an owner in PA. We will work at this until the end of April. Come the end of April if no owner has been found we will have to move this team to the Stauffer Division where there are a number of interested people. We will then go to a 5/7 divisional format for the 1954 season. I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS!!!! 6/6 is obviously a better set-up. WE, especially the Krasnasky owners, should do everything they can to find a replacement owner. Hang up notices at work. Send announcements to local shopper newspapers. Talk the league up at your job and other hobbies like fantasy leagues. SELL THE LEAGUE to perspective people! Tell them what a great bunch of guys we have, and Bill Schaeffer. We have been around since 1984--be proud of that. So, that is our task. Find someone before the end of April!

1/14The + and - fielding ratings given in the roster book are listed for each year. Junior Gilliam is not a + 10 times. He is a + in 1953, 56, 57 and a minus in 1962, 64, 66. So he is a 3 time + and a 3 time minus. TONY--I will check Dyck's info and get back to you.
12/11
EMERGENCY---WE NEED TO FIND A NEW OWNER FOR FEB.9!!!! ED STETZ & WAYNE-- We have a team available starting in 1953. It has a young Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Curt Simmons, Johnny Sain, Phil Rizzuto and George Kell. It is a contender! This is a great time to get back into the league. The upcoming drafts are full of famous greats...Aaron, Banks, Kaline, Koufax, Killebrew, FRobinson..... If either of you are interested please get back to me ASAP. I may even consider a sharing arrangement. Think about it!! TONY--let me know what your specific plans are with Mike's team. Also, do you have a copy of the most recent SABR membership book. It is letter sending time. JOHN & GEORGE--I would like you two to be the contact persons in your respective areas. Letters will soon be going out to the local media. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN INTERESTED FRIEND? Let's work together to fill this opening. Talk up the league! Talk up Mickey Mantle! LET'S GO!

12/6

1953 DRAFT--in an earlier missive I changed the date of the draft and gave an improper date. The draft will be Saturday February 9--World Series will be at 11:30am.

12/4

1953 DRAFT-- 1952 WORLD SERIES will be held at 9am at McDonalds in Morgantown 1953 DRAFT will start at 11am at the Morgantown Hotel. We should be done by 5pm allowing people to get home by 6pm for the Super Bowl.

BOARD CHANGE-- When a pitcher starts he will always refer to the starter's rest rating chart. When a pitcher relieves he will always refer to the relief rest rating chart. If a starter/reliever exceeds the number of innings allowed in a game for a reliever he then reverts to the starter rest rating chart.
11/26

INTERLEAGUE PLAY-- Bill, Dave and myself will be arriving in Morgantown at 1pm. I know Bill is playing a series at 1 and I am not. BRING LIGHTS! See everyone there.

TONY--the writeup looks good. Will let you know when to e-mail it out.

CHUCK--did you mail me the registers?

PLAYERS AVAILABLE 1953-- Ted Lepcio a + at 2B and 3B in 1953 and a + in 1954. He has a decent career. Looking for $600. Eddie Joost solid hitting part time shortstop in 1953 and a .369 pinchhitter in 1954. Looking for $200.

RESULTS-- Creators win 4 on the road vs. the Legend Killers.

9/20/01 STAUFFER SCHEDULE OF GAMES-- Legend Killers vs. Next Generation--Friday 7pm at Joe's
Creators vs. Next Generation--Sunday 7pm JOE--where do you wish to play?

I do not believe my last e-mail went thru---- In response to the suggestion, in the past I suggested that we make the 2B split an outfield split to increase the value of outfielders. This was rejected. This would be a very simple change with no extra work for me. As for infielders being more valuable, this is probably somewhat true.

1951 SCHEDULE-- I see that the Krasnasky Division has 40 games to play in 10 days, plus playoffs--how are you planning to do this? I am very concerned.

9/4/01 Various Things I forgot to post

I have put together all the rules that I could find into one document. They are posted on the main page or Click Here

It looks like Terwilliger will be a + in 1954.

I still need World Series scoresheets. Specifically the winning scoresheets from 1946-1950. So Brett, Bill, Tony, and Joe please get these to me by the draft. Thanks.

Looks like the draft stays Sep. 29. George, if you can not make the 29th I guess you can make some good notes and get people with little money to draft for you. I will also do whatever I can.

JULY 2001 COMMISSIONERS REPORT

Fielding ratings will be complete up to 1969 in my encyclopedia. Bring your book and update your info when you see me. After the 1969 season Fielding ratings will be determined by Fielding Runs as stated in TOTAL BASEBALL from the 3rd edition onward.

GENERAL RULES: FIRST BASE--over +5 fielding runs will probably be a + less than -5 will probably be a -

Players with multiple positions who fall in these numerical ranges could have one or more plusses/minuses. I am now using the STATS MAJOR LEAGUE HANDBOOK as my guide for multiple position players.

FIELDING RATINGS OF NEW PLAYERS-- These are taken either from the Encyclopedia where the + or - is written by the players names or hidden + or - ratings. If the + or - is written in the encyclopedia it will not change. The hidden + or - is 90% sure.

FUN IDEA-- I have every Real All-Star selections from 1903 to 1951. If anyone would like to put their stats in a computer and play an All-Star game it might be interesting. Or we could have a re-play of our All-Stars for an All-Star game.

MILITARY HOLDS-- Remember that military holds do not count towards your roster limit. It is your responsiblity to announce who your military holds are. The MS designation can be found in the season-by-season records in THE SPORTS ENCYCLOPEDIA BASEBALL by Neft/Cohen.

HEY GUYS, Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. Called the hotel and informed them of the need for an air conditioner which they said is noted. RULE CHANGE SUGGESTION--I am working on the 1952 shells as well as a easy-access rule book. The rule book will be distrubuted on July 28. While doing this I was thinking of our present roster rules. We make our entire roster available the last 5 games of the season. Real baseball has a 40 man roster starting Sep. 1 which would give them about 30 games use. I think we should make our full roster available the last 10 games of the season. 30/162 =18.5%*62=11.5games. So to better equal real baseball I believe 10 games would be a good number. We can do this for 1951. Let's vote by internet. TONY--as league secretary can you keep track of the vote as I will also. Please respond ASAP. 7/3/01

Presently working on 1952 shells as well as the newest edition of our encyclopedia.

ZAK--how is your project going?

FINES--Mike $40, Brett $70 for late stats. I am going to treat both divisions equally from now on--no more breaks for the Krasnasky Division.

GAMES--Dave and I will be playing Friday afternoon which will give every team in the Stauffer Division 20 games played.

Wishing you and your family a great 4th of July holiday! 5/29 THE CARDS HAVE BEEN MAILED--TUESDAY.

PLAYBOARD CHANGE--

Pitcher Tired Factors:

NORMAL--1--2ings +1def

same as Normal Starters when relieving

Upon playing the game I have found that R pitchers get much more benefit from increased fielding rating than decreased fielding rating. The vast majority of R pitchers pitch no more than an inning and thus are never penalized. This makes the relievers card more effective than it should be. The change in Tired Factor will negate this problem. The advantage of the reliever will continue to be his rest rating flexibility. Please make the appropriate change on your playboards.

5/12 Rich has changed the innings allowed for three relievers who are in the playoffs.
Aloma wild card no change playoffs 7 innings allowed

Chuck Perritt wrote: Suggestion: ANY pinchitting by a pitcher counts towards his at bat limits even if he stays in to pitch. This is being abused (I've abused it myself) and is not in the spirit of the rule.
Commish wrote: Tony and I discussed this and for next season I am making it that the pitcher can not bat first. He must pitch before he bats or his plate appearances count.

4/23 Miksis 52 & 53 -at 2Base; Elliott 52 of-,3b0; Gordon 54 of-,3b0 I am 95% sure about these ratings.
JOE--you are right about Swift. The difference is that I am using a new reference source for hidden fielding ratings--The 3rd thru 7th Edition of TOTAL BASEBALL and STATS MAJOR LEAGUE HANDBOOK. I was using the 1st edition when I made the Swift decision and in that edition he was a -8. You got screwed but that can happen with hidden fielding players, especially now that I am using a different source. One can also be surprised with a hidden +. Sorry.

4/17 ROSTER BOOK CORRECTION-- Catcher Aaron Robinson is now a 0 fielder.

4/12 FIELDING RATINGS-- The ratings in THE BASEBALL ENCYCLOPEDIA will not be changed. Whatever is in my official book (+,-) and assumed to be in most of your books, is still the same. I did my research on this years draft and wanted to give you the fielding ratings as I see them. REMEMBER--only the ratings in THE BASEBALL ENCYCLOPEDIA are etched in stone. The other ratings I am 95% sure of. Some of these are listed ratings, others are hidden. Not all are at the position listed. I am just stating that in the seasons listed these players will have these ratings at some position. Most of the positions are obvious.

MILITARY HOLDS– Remember that military holds do not count towards your roster limit. It is your responsiblity to announce who your military holds are. The MS designation can be found in the season_by_season records in THE SPORTS ENCYCLOPEDIA BASEBALL by Neft/Cohen.

LEAGUE COSTS__Will be $9 at this draft. The increase in cost is because of purchases of new decks of cards as well as the purchase of the 6th Edition of TOTAL BASEBALL and the 2nd Edition of MAJOR LEAGUE HANDBOOK. Some of the costs of these books has been passed on to the league.TOTAL BASEBALL now calculates fielding ratings based on innings played rather than games played and is therfore a more accurate tool. MAJOR LEAGUE HANDBOOK measures fielding by position. Hopefully, this will allow me to measure players with split positions more accurately and timely.

COMMISSIONER'S RULING__Starting with the 1951 season, we will now have roster changes at the beginning and end of interleague play, not in the middle. Since we are changing every 10 games presently, it seems to make more sense to change after 12 games rather than 6__12 being closer to 10.

EXPANSION OUTLINE FOR 1961/1962 SEASONS
Real baseball added 2 teams in 1961 and 2 teams in 1962. With our present geographic situation, it would be most advantageous to do the same. Expanding to 2 teams is not enough and would make for clumsy 7_team divisions. Also interleague play would be more difficult. Expanding to 3 teams would also be clumsy in trying to make new division set_ups. Our best tact is to expand 2 teams for 1961 and 2 more teams in 1962.

PROPOSAL
1961 2 teams, one in NJ and one in PA/MD. We will go to 2 7-team divisions for this season. 48 games in division and 14 out of division. Same playoff system will be followed.
1962 2 more teams, one in NJ and one in PA/MD. We will go to 4 4-team divisions. Presently the divisions would be something like this:

DIV A B C D
JOEL JOHN DAVE JOE
GEORGE BRETT BILL TONY
ZAK MIKE RICH CHUCK
EXPANSION EXPANSION EXPANSION EXPANSION

Teams will play 10 games against division mates, 5 games versus other division in same conference, and 3 games versus alternating divisions in other conference. Game totals= 30 in division, 20 in conference, 12 out of conference for a total of 62 games. Interleague play will be easier to schedule since only 8 teams at a time will be scheduled. We will still get to play everyone in a 2_season cycle. The playoffs will only include the 4 division winners.

3/8/01 INTERESTING OWNER INFO-- Upon completing the encyclopedia---George passed the infamous "Baseball Al" to move into 5th place all-time in wins. Only 51 wins behind Denny "is all you have is ham sandwiches" Chapman. Dave & Chuck both passed Barry into 12th and 13th place respectivelly. Zak passed John Richards into 17th place.

2/27/01 I have put together all the rules that I could find into one document here before you. I would like everyone to read this over and see what I missed and any mistakes I may have made. Once edited I will print out copies and put them in binders for each league owner. I have 7 sections--the binder will be split into seven sections or chapters for easy reference and changes. Let me know what you think.

Rules now posted on main page
